Early-morning fire displaces family of 11 from rural Douglas County home

Just talked to the RC. They recommended waiting until next week for donations. Understandably, the family has many things on their minds, and are currently limited to the space of a hotel room. Hopefully, once needs are worked out, this information will be made available.

I just attempted a phone call (no answer) and sent the RC an email, so I'll let you know if I hear anything!

Should we contact the Red Cross for more information on assisting this family, or will the JW have more info later? We have quite a few clothes, books, etc. we could potentially donate for the children, if age, size, and gender were known.

Robbery reported at Central National Bank on 9th Street in Lawrence

I would imagine it's most difficult for any employee to sucessfully attend to their duties without the appropriate access (keys, vaults, etc). Any employer that lets employees have access to any sort of sensitive information or vaulables is fully aware of the risks and benefits. I can't imagine NOT providing my employees appropriate access to software they need to learn to utilize, simply because they might steal a person's SSN. They've been interviewed and vetted, so what suddenly changes between that moment and their first day walking in the doors?

I think fingerprinting is pretty uncommon as part of a background check in many industries-I've been in the financial service sector for almost 6 years and never once provided prints.

I usually find that people willing to liberally flap their trap about a former employer's failings probably is telling a one-sided story.
