KDOT announces more traffic control measures for Kasold and SLT intersection

How does Trump have anything to do with this? So we need more hall monitors in our life? We don't need that many more cops, we can catch the bad guys, we just need to do something more drastic with the habitual bad/drunk/stupid drivers that do break the law.

Editorial: Library muddle

Just another bait and switch by our government. So maybe an $18 million library was not what was needed. Maybe just a million in raises?

City set to select Stoddard to serve as interim city manager; speculation that Holiday Inn will become a DoubleTree by Hilton

Really? What previous decade should we base her pay upon? For an executive level position that rate is quite reasonable, actually lower than it should be.

Police: Woman stabbed in downtown Lawrence on Saturday night

Do you think this person cared whether it was legal or not? He was going to carry a knife or a gun regardless.

New revenue numbers show $715 million shortfall through 2016

There is a balanced to be achieved here. I lean republican because I believe in a smaller, efficient, less intrusive government. However I did not vote for Sam because these cuts were too much, too fast. I can afford more taxes, but I want the money well spent. Governments are run poorly by nature. You can't just throw more money at them. Our government workforce could be more productive.

Editorial: Gigabit gimmick

Why is the city even considering this? If a company needs gigabit service, they should pay for it. There are thousands of companies all around the country who do.

Are we afraid that we are going to lose potential businesses to google fiber in KC? Are we going to lose jobs in Lawrence? Trying to attract potential employers? Then the city may be justified in this course of action. However, they are not selling this very well. It looks like the grant or loan guarantee is to benefit a for profit company(s).

This is no different than 10 Megabit service was 10 years ago. Sunflower put in a fiber line in my area when there was enough people to justify the service in our area. If there is demand and the service is profitable, then a company will build it.

City struggles to interpret Wicked Broadband's finances as it considers $300k loan guarantee

I would think it should be even more difficult to get financing for a project with the city than with a bank. The first question a bank asks is, "what is your ability to repay the loan?" If you won't allow the lender to look at the books to verify this, then you can't prove you can repay the loan. Banks have to justify their loans to the shareholders, the city should have to justify the loans to the citizens.

If it is such a wonderful deal and profitable, banks or the SBA would go for it and wicked would not have to "share" their books with the public. I have done several SBA loans for my small business projects, it is not difficult if the math works.

The math must not work in this let's go to the city, they'll finance anything.

City monitoring concrete cracking at Rock Chalk Park recreation center

I bet if you poured a driveway for your home with no expansion joints or stress cuts, it would not pass code and they would make you rip it out and start over. Well????

Kansas woman shoots cheating boyfriend in groin

Sounds to me like she was a pretty good shot and figured that her boyfriend should be separated from the offending member.
