Former FHSU president objects to Brownback mailer

Brownback's campaign and many of the ads being run by his minions are less than factual and rely on half-truths and innuendo. Using a "public statement" by a prominent individual, taken out of context, is not only dishonest but also a disservice to that individual. Shame on Brownback and his campaign cronies.

House advances health care compact for Kansas

These fools are really trying to get themselves out of politics. And, the Kansas Chamber is an arm of Citizens for Prosperity and the Koch Brothers. And, of course, Kobach has his nose in this. Wasting our tax dollars again.

Carlos O'Kelly's closes Lawrence location; city set to put more bite into weed ordinance

The one in St Joe has closed as well. In Hays they told folks it was due to a rent increase. Evidently not.

Lawrence-based software development firm seeking incentives to create new jobs; also has expressed interest in possible site at former Farmland Industries location

This company is very well-regarded by their clients (I know of two in the area - not just Lawrence) who give them high marks for their products and service. This is a very team oriented company and they are extremely good to their staff, as the pay scale indicates. This is the very type of company to whom incentives should be given.

Longtime employee Linda Lassen 1 of 2 laid off at Penn House on Friday

This is very sad and handled in a less than professional way. I once served on the Ballard Center board. This is how they have operated in the last 10 years. When they felt I no longer was an asset, I was summarily dumped - by mail. So I am not surprised this happened. I once had the Ballard Center at the top of my gifting list, now I do not even give them as an option when asked. This is an organization on a downward spiral. Shameful!

Lawrence's Westlake Ace Hardware part of $88 million sale; customers not expected to notice changes at local stores

The last time I needed a hardware item, I went to Cottins on Mass. St. And, if I bought something which did not work, or I discovered I did not need, they happily refunded my money. Everyone at that local, family-owned store is truly helpful. It's like walking back in time. The folks at the Westlake Ace stores operate the same way. Kudos to both operations.

Temporary closure of 15th/Bob Billings Parkway this summer upsets neighbors; city proposes new detour in hopes of alleviating concerns

There are always issues with businesses and residents any time a project of this magnitude begins. Everyone wants the upgrades and improvements, but no one wants to "live" with the inconvenience. Having had a business which was impacted by two major issues - a new roadbed in the late 1980's and flooding in 1993, I can empathize with both residents and businesses. However, the bullet must be bitten at some point (no time will be perfect) and the end result, for the whole community, will be well-worth the inconvenience.
