Police department's case for a new facility not likely to show on next year's budget, officials say
It's not so much that the downtown law enforcement center is falling apart - it's more that the city police patrol division is outgrowing the space there. Ian Cummings, LJW.

Two men face charges in Sunday morning shooting
One of the defendants is charged with battery. Whether that relates to a domestic violence incident may be explained in court. But in the first hours after a shooting, often a lot of information comes out that only becomes clear later. Ian Cummings, LJW.

Two men face charges in Sunday morning shooting
They were not inmates at the Douglas County Jail when the shootings occurred. Both have been in custody since they were arrested Monday. When people are taken out of the jail for court, or to be interviewed by investigators, they are booked into the jail again when they return. Ian Cummings, LJW.

Police to aggressively enforce seat-belt laws in 2013 Click It or Ticket campaign
If a child passenger is in the car without a seat belt, the police officer might cite the driver of the car, who would be the responsible party. Ian Cummings, Lawrence Journal-World.

Former state representative Solbach critically injured after ATV and car collide
