Four-year Jayhawk Boulevard construction project could end with re-creation of old tree canopy, new center bike lane
I had to laugh during the drought this summer. They'd have people out cutting grass every week even though no grass had grown. It was just one huge dust cloud. Surely a similar fate has effected the trees. Those trees were going to be trimmed whether they needed it or not.

Those buses will bring approximately 3 million riders onto campus for this school year. So you'd rather all those people try and stuff their cars on campus? KU's bus system is the highest volume system in the entire state by far. If you don"t believe me call KU Parking and Transit.

Do you have any idea how expensive light rail is? KU / The City doesn't have that kind of money to throw around. That's why KC hasn't done light rail yet.

Undercover task force cites 17 businesses for selling alcohol to minors
They can"t buy beer but schools and parents have half of them on some kind of ADHD med which is a form of speed. Of which an estimated 30% of those meds are traded around to other kids like candy. We live in such a dumb society.

Commission approves increase in water and sewer rates; city on path to build $64M sewage treatment plant
Keep in mind some of the upgrades are due to federal mandates which the city has no power over. Rock Chalk Park is another story. The city mandates you pay for that whether you like it or not. I'm on the not list.

Tickets issued by Lawrence police hit five-year low
Just because we now have Stability Control, better seat belts, seat belt laws , air bags, crumple zones, traction control, side impact beams, roll over cadges and so forth doesn't mean anyone is driving better or safer. I wish we could put all these idiots in a 1972 Chevy Impala and let them impale themselves on the steering wheel or slide off the road. The death rate has dropped in spite of the driver. Just ask State Farm. Their stats show for some crazy reason people are now crashing into lines of stopped cars like never before. Put your freakin phones down and show some respect to the people around you.

Tickets issued by Lawrence police hit five-year low
I was on 6th street around midnight last night and this car goes flying by at least 20 over. A cop is sitting at the Dollar Store facing 6th. I was shocked he didn't go after the car. When I drove by he was texting. No wonder he missed it. I see people run stop signs right in front of cops all the time and nothing. LPD does a good job in some areas but they have allowed driving to become a free-for-all. It has become dangerous to drive in this town.

Cars got safer but drivers got worse. Cars are saving people from themselves. The body shop owners I know are busier than ever. They tell me business use to spike after snow etc. Now they have a constant stream of business. Death rates among teens and people in their early 20's has gone up 20% in a very short time frame. The best guess of experts is texting. People would rather wreck their cars than wait 2 seconds in this town.

Snow more: Winter storm warning issued for Monday, Tuesday
What makes you think wealthy people want this? Most of the people I know with money don't understand why the city commission is ramming this down the taxpayers throats. I don't know a single person that thinks we need this piece of garbage.
