Group wants to place 10,000-pound piece of World Trade Center at Lawrence Visitors Center

Seriously?!?!?

That thing is hideous. Why not ask NYC to throw in a piece of sewer pipe so we can dress it up a bit.

No wonder they pulled the photo off their web site. It would be an insult to veterans, Jim Brothers, the visitors center, and the city in general.

Crews respond to carbon spill near Kaw Water Treatment plant in central Lawrence

Jeesh. I heard there was sunshine loose in town today. Who do I call?

Carbon dust ignitable? So too is grain dust. Virtually any dust derived from organic matter, actually.

Suggested readings about the Common Core controversy, pro and con

When one side of the debate actively uses the hyperbolic language of "socialism" and "communism" and "federal takeover of our schools" and "Obama's power grab" about the standards, when the standards had their creation in non-federal government venues like the National Governors Association, and have been adopted in virtually every other states, I am not so inclined to need to do too much research.

It may be ad hominem analysis, but if when I see the likes of Mary Pilcher Cook and Walt Chappell leading the charge, I am quite comfortable in charging the other direction.

Quarry allowed to change mining schedule

Or maybe people who buy property next to a quarry which actually exists and is being mined should not later complain that the quarry exists.

Brownback wants to keep higher state sales tax; Democrats say that proves his income tax policy isn't working

So move to Missouri and enjoy a state that has low taxation. It is already a wreck.

Conservative groups to host discussion on tax reform

They "invited" Davis, but I'm not sure he has accepted the invitation. If these people had any intellectual courage, they should have invited Duane Goossen, a former Republican state rep, and former State Budget Director. He knows the state budget inside and out, and can easily identify the lies and implications that this cast of characters will throw out.

Might as well call this the Koch Brothers Tax Propaganda Conference.

New Lawrence PAC raises $14K as City Commission election draws near; Farmer top candidate fundraiser at $11K

I would respect other candidates more if they gave more of their own money to their campaign. That way they are not on the take from special interests.
