Lawrence man encourages people to prepare for the inevitable

I would have posted the booklet with the article online but Mr. Hannon doesn't use the Internet, so he doesn't have it stored digitally. If you would like a copy, he says to give him a call at 785-841-7455.

Lawrence Memorial Hospital braces for cuts from Affordable Care Act

LHM was going to lose the $2.7 million no matter what but would have gained an additional $1.1 million in revenue if Kansas had expanded Medicaid. So the loss would have been $1.6 million if the expansion happened, but is now going to be $2.7 million. Hospital associations actually supported the loss in Medicare reimbursement because the money was being shifted to insuring more Americans. —Giles Bruce, LJW

Lawrence nurse to become full-time missionary

Karin didn't seek out publicity for this cause. I happened to be interviewing her for another article (about another charity she donates her time for, in fact) when she mentioned that she was planning on going on an indefinite mission trip to Nepal. I thought it would make for an interesting article. That's it.
