Police complaint case summaries provide scant detail

Kathib needs to remember that the police work for the community. The community needs to be able to trust the group of people chosen to enforce the laws. This requires transparency!

Westside Lawrence Farmers' Market called off

Why would you put it there? They would have to charge an extra 1% sales tax on everything that goes directly to the developers.

City trying to revoke bar’s liquor license

Safety in public areas is what the police are hired to provide. This is why they exist. If it is a problem area then the cops need to focus on it.

The bar may be attracting the wrong clientele, but if the cops are all over then eventually it will get the message across that maybe the troublesome clientele should go elsewhere.

Seriously, by your logic we should charge KU atheletics every time KU basketball goes to show due to the required increased police presence on Mass.

City trying to revoke bar’s liquor license

While I agree that it is the bar's responsibility to provide a safe environment. It doesn't have strong control over what happens *OUTSIDE*. That responsibility is left up to the Lawrence Police Department. They should have a stronger presence in the area if they know that a certain activity is elevated in the area!!

Town Talk: UPDATE: New police HQ building to cost $30 million; City staff presents plan to buy 23,000 trash carts; city estimating 7,000 households would see rate decrease with cart plan

What effect would this have on the brush pickup on Mondays? I use a couple of stackable trashcans that I pull out of the garage on the weekend, fill with yard waste and put it on the curb on Monday. I have no desire to buy paper trash bags or bundle things with twine just to have it picked up.

Brownback's Facebook page swamped with posts critical of his anti-abortion stance

Real news would have the headline of, "Conservative governor reconsiders stance on abortion after reading facebook post". That is a good starting point for an Onion article.

Meth takes heavy toll on users

It is good to see that those laws they passed which require law abiding citizens to show identification and have it recorded to buy cold medicine are working. Oh wait - now they want to take it one step further and ban them completely.

Brownback voices disapproval of Obama rule on contraceptives

Let's see - so breast exams, annual physicals, vaccinations and the like are just routine maintenance and shouldn't be covered. Your analogy is poor and deeply flawed.

Sound off: What is USD 497’s policy on teachers espousing their personal political and religious bel

Contact the teacher first. Get their side of the story. It is rarely so cut and dry when it comes to what people say and what young minds perceive. If you aren't happy with that response, then go to the principal of the school. If you don't do this - then you won't be taken seriously because you didn't follow generally accepted protocol for handling class room issues.

Kansas Highway Patrol to conduct a saturation patrol Saturday night in Lawrence, Douglas County

Maybe they will start the patrol before the game starts in hopes to get the good seats.
