University Senate pushes for more tuition assistance benefits for faculty, staff and their families

Technically, you can ask to audit the class. It won't cost you anything. You just won't get credit for it towards a degree. I know of quite a few retired people around town that take courses at KU for fun.

The cost of some benefits at KU are already based on salary. Health insurance and the mandatory life insurance policy are two examples. You pay more out of pocket for the benefit the more you earn.

You are right. However, the amount of money a department or school receives is based on enrollment on the 20th day of school. There is also quite a bit of money that is above and beyond tuition. At KU, there is the base rate and than each professional school has a course fee per credit hour. For example, the $1000 scholarship mentioned above won't cover the cost of a single three hour undergraduate class in the School of Business with a course fee of $119.70 per hour.

City approves new location for Tuesday Farmers' Market in downtown

You do realize that the Farmer's Market has to enter into an agreement with the City to get access the parking lots, right? You do realize they have to acquire the appropriate permits from the city that costs $$ to get access to the parking lots right? They are paying for the usage and the city is also getting sales tax dollars. In addition, people who go to the Farmer's Market quite often shop at other stores downtown while visiting the market. They just need a spot to hold it. It isn't like they are asking for a 10 year, 100% tax abatement like all the other crooks around here.

a) Yes. b) If necessary. c) Probably not, but they clean up after themselves. d) No. e) The question is too general for an answer.

What is your point? You could find out some of this by using something called "Google".

Statehouse Live: Labor groups suffer blow in Kansas House

Let me get this right. It is bullying if we express to a representative that we don't like the way they voted? Don't they call that Lobbying?

Two child care facilities to close in Lawrence

The impact this will have on the community is significant. We have jobs lost. We have young children displaced out of their familiar learning environment. We potentially have parents and their employment that will be impacted depending on whether or not they can find replacement care and schooling by the time the old school closes. This is bad news for the community.

Police chief presents downtown surveillance camera policy at forum, will revise for City Commission

Did I say that you wrote that Lawrence has a serious crime problem? Go read what I wrote again and do it slower. The implication was due to the indication that cops have "a hard enough job given todays societal problems". Those are your words. Maybe you should elaborate? What problems do we have in Lawrence that warrant the cameras that couldn't be taken care of by good ole police work like patrols?
