Kansas delegation holds position of making government funding contingent on delaying Obamacare

It's interesting that the House Republicans are upset because the Senate Democrats are not open to negotiating and compromise. The Republicans do not offer a compromise, they flat out want the ACA eliminated. How is that a compromise?

Seems to me the Right is just concerned that the ACA, despite the glitches, will be successful. The Republican benefactors include major employers that are able to retain good workers by holding health insurance over their head. Now with the ACA, many entrepreneurial minded people will be leaving their employers and starting up their own businesses because they can afford insurance, thus creating competition and forcing employers to pay an acceptable wage to retain good workers. Of course the Right wants to repeal the ACA, they won't get any financial backing to keep them in office if the ACA is successful.

Kansas delegation holds position of making government funding contingent on delaying Obamacare

Additionally, the Koch brothers have been buying up newspapers and other media outlets, which will likely be used to promote right leaning propaganda to the ignorant and uninformed and promote the Koch political views. I see it as a tool for the Koch brothers to get more Republicans elected to ensure they have a group of politicians to do their bidding and pass legislation favorable to Koch Industries.

Kansas attorney general joins NRA, 21 other states in challenge of federal handgun restriction

I believe that 18, 19, and 20 year-old should not be sent to war, nor should the be allowed to drink alcohol or purchase handguns. The maturity level is simply not there for the majority of them. Take a look at the link below regarding the parents of "children" in this age group that actually go to job interviews with their children.

Letter: Wasted effort

Here's an interesting story to add to the mix regarding healthcare. Montana is offering State run free clinics for the state's employees in order to reduce expenses. Universal healthcare at a state level? Best part is that it works great and those formerly opposed to it admit that it is a good program.

Hundreds of public entities take temporary exemption from concealed carry expansion

"More than 400 cities, counties, libraries, hospitals and organizations have notified the state that they have exempted themselves."

How much more out of touch and ignorant can KS state government be?

State board approves new science standards

Religious beliefs should never influence science teaching standards in public schools. In no way should religion interfere with public school curriculum or any level of government. There should be a litmus test to determine if religious motivation is present every time guidelines and legislation are proposed.

On a similar note, Huckabee is telling churches to remove their tax free status. The premiss is that without government restrictions associated with tax free status, churches would be able to freely instruct followers how to vote and allow religion to have a greater influence on politics.

Over 100 animals find homes during free adoption day

I question whether a free adoption is always in the best interest of the animal being adopted. If adoption fee as little as $10 is preventing people from adopting, is the animal going to receive the necessary care it needs, because normal expenses of an animal goes way beyond the adoption fee. I would not want to deny a homeless animal the chance for adoption, but it is important that these animals go into acceptable homes and if adoption fees was the deciding factor as to whether or not to adopt, chances are pretty high that people adopting only free animals may not be providing the best care.

What makes a good barbecue sauce?

The sauce depends on the meat. Gates is great when doing ribs, but some of the sauces on the slightly sweeter side are better with chicken.

State officials working overtime to keep up with concealed-carry permits

So its ok to pay overtime so the gun nuts can get their CC permit, while the sequestration has resulted in organizations and companies laying off workers, while many more have decided not to staff vacant positions. Schools on military bases are contemplating four-day weekly schedules. Food pantries have closed, as have centers that provide health services. Farmers have been forced to go without milk production information, causing alarm in the dairy industry and the potential of higher milk prices. Workers at missile-testing fields are facing job losses. Federal courts have closed on Fridays. Public Broadcasting transmitters have been shut down. Where are the priorities in our state and federal government?
