Letter: Visitors center

Thanks, DMCW. Agree that it could and should be complementary.

Letter: Visitors center

As I stated in a comment on a similar thread, my intention was never to replace the current Visitors Center in North Lawrence (which I have known about and visited - several times - since it first opened) or its staff. It's a fantastic facility with a rich history. The idea - and that's all it is, at this point - is for a small satellite downtown - with a Downtown focus - that could point people to the main visitor center across the bridge, if need be. It was simply an idea to make Downtown more user-friendly; not intended to drive a wedge. Thanks.

Letter: Center exists

George is right. I was talking about a small satellite downtown - with a Downtown focus - that could point people to the main visitor center across the bridge, if need be. No diss intended, whatsoever, to the current visitor center or its staff. The idea came from a trip my husband and I took to the UK last year, where we utilized numerous visitors centers, all located in the centres of their respective cities/towns. We would arm ourselves with maps, shopping and pub recommendations and set off on foot to our first destination which was, often, right around the corner. Thanks.

Sound Off: How late will downtown stores be handing out candy to trick-or-treaters today?

Downtown Trick or Treating has become an enormously popular event since its inception in 1985. Our Downtown businesses enjoy the spirit of the evening and do their best to provide treats for everyone, typically spending several hundred dollars per merchant on the night. We appreciate the public's participation and especially our patrons who take the time to say "thank you." Happy Halloween, everybody!
