Journal-World websites to require commenters to identify themselves

Frankly it is good that the number of comments will go down. Most comments on most topics are either inane, repetitive or off-topic. This will mean that those who have actually thought about a topic and take time to carefully compose their thoughts will more likely be the ones weighing in (instead of those with nothing else to do).

Journal-World websites to require commenters to identify themselves

This is a great change. Anonymity has led to idiocy in the tenor of the discussion. This should help confine the discussion to thoughtful, reasoned, well-written comments instead of random blurts from folks with seemingly nothing else to do but shoot barbs all day rather than accomplishing something worthwhile.

Lawrence residents say new garbage cans are stinking up the city

I've bagged every bit of mine in those great yellow trash bags and mine still stinks. The City needs to take responsibility.

Longtime media executive Ralph Gage retiring from The World Company

I cannot imagine the pressure there must have been every day (every hour) to get a newspaper out and run the rest of the operation for 43 years. Mr. Gage handled the job professionally and wisely. He has also found time and energy to help in the community. He is a very special person who we have been most fortunate to have in Lawrence.

Letter: Safety concern

I found a used condom by the picnic tables a few days ago. The junior high age kids hanging out there must be enjoying summer vacation.
When I called the police last week about 3 boys on the roof the dispatcher asked if they were hurting anything. I had no idea as it was dark, but I presume no good was going to come from them being up there.
Quail Run School has video cameras all around it. Surely the police can identify the delinquents from the cameras.
Getting license plates is also a great idea.

Downtown Lawrence bank briefly evacuated for unfounded bomb threat

It is sick that oneeye wilbur finds humor in this. Think about the bank employees who have to deal with this. Think about the issues this poor man must have been dealing with to lead him to do this and to now be incarcerated. Do you have no feelings for others?

More snow on the way tonight; Lawrence schools, KU, others closed Friday

City snow removal ordinance should help the hospital get lots of heart attack patients.

Lawrence physician Terry Riordan likely to file for seat on City Commission

Dr. Riordan listens well, is smart and has good judgment. Seems like what we would want from a Commissioner.

Sound Off: FSHS cleaning

That averages out to 3 custodians per building. Why can't they do basic cleaning of each room each day? Why is the school district's response to contact the principal? This only gets some parent (and their child) cross-wise with the school when the principal and administrators just need to step up and expect the custodial crew to work hard for a full day each and every day. Is that too much to ask?
