District attorney files felony charge against man accused of killing dog with pellet gun

Did he shoot him when the toddler was nearby? If so, he should also be charged with felony child endangerment. What a POS.

Rise in mental health emergencies makes local ER workers fear for their safety

Do you work at LMH? You clearly do not know anything about it as an organization or how its ER is run.

Is the date wrong or are they just now exactly one year later launching a search or is this an update? This is a strange article.

Longtime downtown restaurant reopens, plans to add college arcade; several downtown businesses set to close

Quinton's is definitely not the same as it was before. It isn't bad, it is definitely improved from the change that happened a year or so ago. The food was good but it definitely wasn't "Quinton's". The potato soup was definitely tasted from scratch but didn't satisfy my craving for Quinton's potato soup or Wisconsin cheese soup. I think a lot of the "loyal following" will change now because the menu is so far removed from what it was originally.

Completely agree about the emergency vet - something our town desperately needs, especially since Lawrence is such an animal friendly town.

Lawrence Humane Society plans for construction of new animal shelter

This was my thought too, I would like clarification on this. LHS always presented as a "no kill" shelter, but I am speculating that the 14% is from euthanizing ill or injured animals and they are hoping to reduce that rate by having a new and improved medical facility to help treat them. My understanding is that "no kill" means that animals aren't euthanized simply because of over capacity. I hope LHS clarifies why they have that rate of animals killed, because finding out they have a 14% euthanasia rate when they are supposed to be a no-kill shelter is going to be a huge violation of trust with the community.
