So long, sugary drinks
Diet soda isn't any better than its counterpart. Empty calories are empty calories, and the chemicals used in diet soda are probably more harmful than sugar anyway.
Education does start in the home, but unfortunately many adults are just as clueless about good nutrition as their kids. Hey, you can't even get nutritionists to totally agree on a standard! Nonetheless, schools should be picking up the slack, helping to teach kids about healthy choices and the consequences of not making them.

Dressed to impress
Geez, I'm never going to get a job if I have to dress like the article suggests. If you're unemployed, who has the money for matching shoes and purse, and a lined suit? Or a real hairdo? Oh, wait. I did get a job and only bothered to be neat and clean and as professional as I ever get. Never mind. (Said tongue-in-cheek, sort of.)

Lawrence rejoins list of most livable sites
I checked out the website. We didn't make the top 10, which seem to be the only ones ranked. However, we are joined by such dubious cities as Yorba Linda and Roseville in California, neither of which I'd visit much less live in. Makes you wonder what the criteria was, exactly. Ah, well. To each his own...I'll take Lawrence.

Two plans compete for use of Carnegie Library
Cowboy, my apology. I had read the article and simply skimmed right past the numbers. :o)

Two plans compete for use of Carnegie Library
Obviously the City believes Americana has the income to meet the financial requirements, Cowboy, or it wouldn't be seriously considering their proposal.
In order to verify your claim, can you tell us where you got your information on Americana's annual revenue and the current costs of maintaining the Carnegie building?

Two plans compete for use of Carnegie Library
This article did not do Americana's proposal justice. Before anyone passes judgement, I suggest you find out more about what the school brings to this community now and what they want to do for it in the future. And for the record, it's not just "folk" music per se, but all American root music, including blues, R & B, bluegrass, jazz and more.
Lawrence, from what I've heard, used to have a great music tradition that's slacked off over the years. Let's support something that will bring that distinction back, and perhaps eventually become a major national draw.

Hm. Bush to a tee. Guess it takes one to know one.

New Urbanism project approved
I've seen "New Urbanism" on a grand scale in California and it does resemble a movie set with all its inherent warmth and feeling. (For those of you at all familiar with San Jose, think "Santana Row". Ugh.) Stepford, only scarier.
