Letter: No re-enactment

There's a difference between remembering history and celebrating treason. The rebels during the Civil War were traitors to the Constitution who defended the slow genocide of slavery by some bogus logic about "states' rights." Quantril was a thug. Reenacting his attack in 1863 would be like modern Germans reenacting Crystal Night. No decent person would tolerate it. How about a moment of silence for all the good people who've defended and died for human rights? That seems to be more in line with the Lawrence way of living.

Opinion: Bringing end to war is an Obama fantasy

Typical mean-spirited neo-con war-mongering. And what's up with all the Wizard of Oz references? As Glinda said, Dorothy always had the capability to go home. Obama is saying we can end this 9/11 War if we want to. And as far as being defenseless on 9/11/2001, it was Krauthammer's boys, Cheney and Bush who were in charge.

Opinion: Why gay role models matter

This "defect" has been around for a long time, so I doubt if it will be eliminated. Clearly there is some other benefit to the species. Since so many Gays enter the helping professions and historically the unmarried child (who was often Gay or Lesbian) was the one who cared for elderly parents and among some Native American tribes the "two-spirits" people were the shamans and teachers, same-sex attraction does benefit the species as whole. Pork_Ribs, it isn't always about sex.

Letter: An angry rant

He didn't say that anyone was "pushing" gay marriage. He said that they were debating how gay marriage hurt heterosexual marriage and that is, pretty much, a Republican talking point.

Letter: An angry rant

Every president raises the debt ceiling. Stop blaming Obama for business as usual. The Republicans who don't want to raise the debt ceiling don't understand much about the way the Federal Government operates.

100 years ago: Custody battle plays out in Lawrence courtroom

I wonder how she turned out. Was her father better than her uncle said he was, or was the court fooled?

They're lying and they persist in their ignorance.

Lawrence Libations: Schooners at Louise’s Bar downtown

I know from personal experience that schooners were served at Louise's in 1968 and had been a long-standing tradition even then. I remembering drowning my sorrow over Nixon's election in November of that year, listening to "Those Were the Days, My Friends" over and over on the juke box. Of course, 3.2 beer was near swill, but it did the job back then.

Maybe she was adopted (hopefully by loving people) and got a new name with her new family.
