Lawrence school officials weigh pros and cons of later start times for teens

Don't blame social media. I taught high school for forty years and I can state clearly that the adolescent brain doesn't truly wake up until 10 a.m. Academic classes in the morning and electives and physical education, team sports, etc. in the afternoon.

KU professor helping identify important sites, events in LGBT history

Wonder if the National Park Service will also gather scholars to identify the sites where people have struggled to achieve the right of a woman to control her own body?

What is your reaction to the Supreme Court’s ruling in Burwell v. Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc.?

Not one woman has written a comment here. Silence can be very loud.

Kansas House gives final approval to bill backing out of Obamacare

But this was originally a Republican plan. Why can't the Republicans just see the President's white half and help get people insured?

School funding fix may get linked to teacher licensing, other policy changes

Loosening the standards for granting credentials to teachers is the worst possible thing to re-invigorate education in Kansas. How very sad that the state that prepared me so well in the 1950s and 1960s has sunk to being the butt of late night comedians. The Republican Party and its fundamentalist Christian base do not want thinking people.

Debate over religious beliefs, gay rights will continue

Religion and politics are choices, too, and they're protected. Sexual orientation is not a choice. Pretty simple. And, as far as Christianity is concerned, Jesus seemed pretty keen on not judging others and he identified with the least in His society. I bet he still does.

Letter: Rights for all

I have never been more deeply ashamed of my native state. It's hard to believe that the impetus to settle Kansas was to make it a free state, dedicated to advancing rights, not limiting them. Let us hope that the courts will quickly rule this legislated religious bigotry will be ruled unconstitutional, because we know the Senate and Brownback will sign this horrible act into law.

KU students, staff sound off on possibility of concealed carry of guns in campus buildings

I agree wholeheartedly with Prof. Carothers. This new law can only result in a more dangerous campus.
