Current federal government shutdown similar to 2009 showdown in Kansas

LJW, your left-wing bias is showing, again.

The Republican-controlled House of Representatives voted all the money required to keep all government activities going -- except for ObamaCare.

This is not a matter of opinion. You can check the Congressional Record.

And this shutdown is not anywhere near like the previous one or ANY previous government shutdown. Were the boat ramps and all the campgrounds and facilities on the Federal side of Clinton lake closed the last time? They're closed at Perry Lake, too, by the way in case you were thinking of heading out to picnic in this beautiful fall weather.

Were folks tossed out of their homes and their private businesses closed because the road to the house or business was on Federal land the last time? They've also ordered hundreds of parks that sit on federal land to close amid the government shutdown — even though they don’t use any government funding. The Obama Administration even tried to close the ocean, informing charter boat captains that the Florida Bay was “closed” due to the shutdown. Until government funding is restored, the fishing boats are prohibited from taking anglers into 1,100 square-miles of open ocean!

They even shut down the Amber Alert system nationwide [however Michelle's "Let's Move" website remained up] until the outcry forced them to rescind that particular order. And yet, Obama's golf course which is on Federal land is still open but all the commissaries where our soldiers buy their groceries are closed. They also cut sports and entertainment programs [American Forces Network] for our deployed troops and Catholic priests are not allowed to say Mass on base or they will be arrested. And yet somehow there is money for NPR.

Did ANY of this happen the last time the government shut down? There have been 17 government shutdowns since the '70's. The only that President to ever completely refuse to negotiate on the debit ceiling: Obama.

Kobach to have clay-shooting fundraiser

Guess you've heard of the sport of shooting clays despite growing up with guns. Guess none of them were shotguns.

Neighbor questions church's use of school

This is a Constitutional Republic not a Democracy; rule of law not majority rules.

Looking at some of your past posts perhaps you also need to learn that lesson.

Government shutdown produces automated calls from Democratic Party group targeting Jenkins, Yoder

Quote from the President, "I shouldn't have to offer anything." Not exactly the voice of comprise and reason, eh?

Kansas officials on new health exchange: Be patient

They've had 4 years to get ready for today. It's not like they just found out last week or last month or even last year that TODAY was going to happen.

Defund it then repeal it. It's only going to get worse.

Lawrence gets full-time navigator for Affordable Care Act

I sincerely hope Ms Wells is out of a job very soon because Obamacare has been defunded and repealed.

Lawrence police investigating Tuesday robbery of pizza delivery driver

I get threatened with a gun, I *will* defend myself. If that involves shooting the bad guy, it's the decsion the *bad guy* made when he pulled a firearm and pointed it at me.

Drug-related home invasions on the rise in Lawrence

Did I advocate the Joe Biden method of self-defense? Did I even say gun? I said "get armed and know how to defend yourself". Although I think it's a pretty good weapon, armed is not necessarily a gun. It can be pepper spray, a ball bat, a taser, etc. Your brain is the best self-defense weapon on the planet.

And BTW, if that kid has a gun and is willing to shoot me for my $500 computer to buy drugs, I'd rather he/she be lying there bleeding than me.
