Leadership Lawrence celebrating 30 years with event Friday
LL was...hands down...the best professional move I ever made. Years later, I continue to benefit from the program every single day. The worst part of being in LL is that eventually it comes to an end.

Sound Off: Where are public tornado shelters located in Lawrence?
Teri is one of the BEST emergency managers in the state. Why would she waste her time promoting something she has zero control over? She makes more than announcements....she walks the talk. She advocates tirelessly for preparedness and self-reliance.

Word offends
Wow. Writing a LTE about being offended by a word written by the always classy Cathy. Eva clearly has too much freakin' time on her hands.

Town Talk: Extra Virgin olive oil and vinegar store to open in Downtown Lawrence; retail sales off to best start since 2008; weekly listing of property sales
Best wishes to Ms. Briggs on the success of her new business! But she is going to have to sell a slew of that kind of very taste-specific merchandise to pay the rent and all the other expenses that come with being a business owner. Good luck, Debbie!

Undue attention
A prison sentence for fixing six tickets over the course of nine years? Seriously? This isn't a third world country we're living in.

Soooooo true! The ban on anything even remotely Christian is applauded far and wide across our country today. But the hypocrisy in bending over backwards to accommodate anything remotely Muslim seems to be demanded nowadays. How quickly we have forgotten we are a Judeo-Christian society, not one that is rooted in Islam.

One police officer accused of fixing traffic tickets no longer a city employee; second officer still on suspension
Agree! Matt Sarna cannot be judged and condemned for a misstep in what has otherwise been a stellar career at LPD. All the naysayers here are forgetting his "crime" wasn't even criminal. But no surprise that most of these comments are incredibly self-righteous. He is no more perfect than you or I but at the end of this ordeal, he will remain a great man, father, and member of this community. He will bounce back from this, reinvent himself, and go on to do great things in his next chapter. We should all wish him nothing but the best for his years of service to protecting each of us. Thank you, Matt! You are still loved, respected, and admired by legions of us here in Douglas County. Godspeed!
