Advocates from both sides of gun control debate discuss with community

But even a felon can buy a gun over the internet or in a gun show, since they won't check. Does it make sense to you?

School district's mailing about bond issue raises eyebrows

I'm not against this bond. But my two kids brought each one of these flyers, by the county page there are 11,000 students in the school district, and if each got one, then it is way more than the said amount.

City set to go out to bid for $25 million rec center; commissioners asked to OK retail rezoning for area across highway from center

"In somewhat of a surprise move, the Planning Commission also has opened the door to retail development on the southwest and southeast corners of the intersection. The Planning Commission is recommending approval of a planning document that calls for the southwest corner to have up to 25,000 square feet of retail development, and the southeast corner to have up to 60,000 square feet of retail development." this is very surprising, especially southeast corner which is currently all residential.
Can't the residents do something about it?

Menorah lighting centers on community

I think it is the 5th or 6th year Chabad has been doing it for the community. They did it in various locations over the years, I think this was the first time in the LAC.
It is a fun event that tries to bring the community together.

Residents get answers on proposed rec center

Unfortunately I couldn’t attend last night. I know the city talked about helping and giving the west side what is provided for the rest of the town residents, but I don’t know if that has been answered last night:
Is it planned as place for the kids/teens to hang our? Will there be open access? How will they get there? The bus doesn’t run west of Wakarusa and the traffic is very hectic on the way there
I didn’t understand the Gym thing in the initial plan there was a Gym and walking trail are they still there?
Other than Basketball courts, what else will be there?
Do you have copy of the plans presented last night?
Will residents have free access? Always as it is in the city rec centers or just sometime?

Rec center support

The initial plan was to build a long needed West side rec center. If you'll look on the city map you'll see that there is no rec center anywhere west of Holocom park. So less than half of the city is covered by three rec centers , and the west side has none, so if teens want a place indoor to play basketball, they don't have one, gym cost nothing to the east side but is not available (only from private businesses) for the west and north side.
So these funds were suppose to go there, this has turned into much larger project which frankly I'm not sure will serve the kids as it will not be inside the neighborhoods but this is where the money came from
