Opinion: Amid crisis, Europe resists extremism

Curious references to "20th century" as some creation point of European extremism - far more telling would be the 18th century and the earth-shattering long-lived extremism birthed by the French Revolution. Even in this alleged "post- post-modern society" we're battling with the corrosive notions of those 'thinkers'.

And in whose hands would decisions of wealth be better handled? Hmm?

". Sure, they thought themselves superior in every way to other Asians, but...."

'But' what?

Are we trying to cast our oh-so-modern sensitivities upon the actions of the past, and hold them accountable to our oh-so-correct judgements? Hmmmm?

So, is it "OK" to have "Asians slaughtering Asians", but some wartime propaganda aimed against an enemy is somehow suspect?

Tool time....

Would you rather have a lower income tax and higher sales tax, or lower sales tax and higher income tax?

Everyone pays the same percentage - income or sales.

Everyone. No exception.

Then EVERYONE will have a legitimate interest in keeping FEDZILLA under control and subject to the will of the governed.

Curious comments regarding racism. Was this not a PRIMARY motivator for the Japanese in pushing their empire's boundaries - the inferiority of the other Asian races and the need to bring them under Japan's domination?

Not saying the concept is 'right' or 'acceptable' in a modern context, only an observation of contemporary conditions.

More correctly - the unfortunate decimation of a geographically limited population mass, vs. the widespread slow starvation of an entire nation?

'No' answer suggests that there was some other reasonable alternative - which probably wouldn't survive the application of known historical fact.

Seems even more unreasonable to attempt endless contrarianism in some egocentric frailty.

Letter: Firepower

No problem at all with keeping firearms away from 'bad men'. Or even 'bad people'.

Just as long as we keep knives, bricks, rocks, baseball bats, pieces of rebar or 2x4's or most any construction material, jars of flammable or acid liquid, cars/trucks/ATVs or other heavy wheeled items away from these 'bad people'....

Let's also make sure that 'bad people' are only smaller and weaker than 'good people', even the smallest children that are subject to victimization by 'bad people'....

Hmmm.... the "weapon" doesn't seem to be the real problem, now is it? More likely the problem is found in the dark flaws of the sinful human heart. Human's have been trying to 'outlaw' that for all of mankind's history, haven't they?

You know, sometimes I don't think a lot of these 'banning' people are capable of logical thinking. They didn't call Samuel Colt's invention a 'Peacemaker' for no reason.

When furniture turned into art: Wendell Castle's KU connection

Very wonderful stuff.

Makes me wonder what the difference between 'craft' and 'fine art' is here?

Other than the word 'craft' probably makes fine art snobs spit.

Letter: An angry rant

So, the way to make things better for "the little people" is to shut them out of major world markets?

Well, at least then, WE won't be to blame for their oppression..... Oh, we must do something to feel better about ourselves....

Opinion: U.S. must take the lead on Syria

You first, Trudy!

No winners in this battle - brutal dictator, or al Qaeda/affiliates.
