South Lawrence Trafficway contract to be awarded Sept. 18; construction to begin soon after

4 lanes baby!!! Widen that sucker out and eat up that bug infested waste land. Bring in the dozers, the dirt and let's get this thing built. Thanks for the price hike on the road tree huggers.

DUI crash survivor hopes to become agent for change

Too bad we can't follow what some European countries do to combat this problem. Take their car, take their drivers license for life. Sounds good to me.

Lawrence officials question performance of charter virtual schools

I taught in a virtual school for one year. Talk about watered down curriculum. I tried to add more substance to the course and met with resistance from the parents and the principal. I guess we did not see eye to eye on keeping the standards high. Granted, not every kiddo can adapt to a brick and mortar environment and that is the best for them, but I saw too many lazy kids who wanted the quick, easy way out to being a graduate. Sad!

More than a decade after a citywide ban, fireworks still making noise in Lawrence

It is time to repeal the fireworks prohibition. Talk about a law that is almost impossible to enforce and a waste of police manpower when there are bigger crimes to be dealt with. I would agree that bottle rockets should be illegal, but all else is fair game. We are celebrating the 4th of July. I am so sick and tire of the tail wagging the dog in this city, county, state and country. It is time to let tradition stand. Happy Birthday America!!

City commissioners to consider final approvals for Menards project

Why can't we get Lowes in here. Lord knows the expansion of Lawrence is NW and the possibility of development south is land locked by farmland and the Baker Wastelands. Lowes or Menards would do well on the north end of the city. Red Lobster tried for 31st and Iowa years ago. Get them in here along with Olive Garden.

Ceremony to remember unique Lawrence figure

I grew up next door to Katherine Weinaug on Stratford Road where Leo used to come and stay periodically. It was always fun to talk with Leo as a young boy and teenager growing up. Leo never felt sorry for himself and enjoyed telling me stories of his life. Definitely made me appreciate the full healthy life I have.

Whew! Kansas survives big, red scare

This team has no SWAG! They do not have an attitude for taking it all the way to the final game.

Bear-ly worth celebrating: KU blown out by Baylor but ties for Big 12 crown

This team was not prepared mentally to play yesterday. IT showed. Baylor came with the mind set of "not in our house," and we came in flat. 60% of our load was carried by the freshman. Where was the senior leadership? S - O - F - T. Hope we don't see a team whose name starts with "B" or we will be home after one game.

KU's Williams Fund opens door for more season-ticket holders to keep seats

More like the "strong arm" of the University twisting your arm while the other picks your pocket.
