Police: Man killed in shooting at East 13th and Maple Lane during Mother's Day cookout

My wife and kids were walking near by when it happened, they were walking around the block. We live two blocks up or so. I heard 3 shots. One shot gun and two pistol shots.

Haskell regents look at raising admissions standards, budget constraints

Hey Clark,

Sort of how we had to put away our land when the Europeans came to take it all away. Also, They give only 10 semesters (five years) to graduate with your four year degree. You do see how disingenious you're being? Why should we believe you about things being stolen or anything else you say for the matter? Also, "your federal dollars at work," statement is garbage. It's a fiduciary responsibility on the part of the US gov. You don't like it? Then go back to where you come from. Easy as that. Let's see how your REAL homeland treats you. You're nothing more than a biological mistake.

Inexcusable Customer Service by Haskell Indian Nations University Employees

Listen, do you want the government to give back our lands (which could include your house) or do you want them to keep us happy with what they promised us in exchange for everything WE owned. I'd be more than happy to do that. It could happen too if the US would allow the Tribal nations to present their case to the UN. The UN would have no choice but to side with us. After all, they gave the Jews back their homeland after a couple of millennium. Imagine what they might do for the American Indian. I know that the US doesn't answer to the UN. One day it will though. How do you feel about giving everything west of the Mississippi back to the American Indian?

If you cared you would quit be anon and go out and speak your mind in the open forum. Go down to the senate meeting and express your concerns directly to the students and faculty. What you are doing is cowardly and coercive. It's obvious that you and your "readers" (some I suspect are simply you patting yourself on the back) have no interest in Haskell existing as a institution. I mean not without belonging to the Lawrence Community or developers. I actually feel sorry for you. I can't wait till Haskell makes some real changes and you're the one without a leg to stand on. Better yet, when we do implement some changes I'm fairly confident you'll try and take all the credit for it. It's a win, win for you buddy. Congrats!

There's only 1000 students on Haskell's campus. Randomly interviewing 66 people is up to par. It is a number that would produce an acceptable margin of error for any scientific study or survey for such a small population.

Who checks employee work stations at Haskell Indian Nations University?

Man you're digging deep for anything to complain about Haskell. You don't care about the student. What good has your articles done? You offer up little to no recourse, only insults and condemnation. A clean house puts in dirt somewhere. You'll lose ground writing articles like this. Yawn.

Free slave labor from Haskell Indian Nations University Students in Lawrence, KS

I will grant you that it is NOT abnormal for companies to offer assistance. The question here is what sort of "assistance". Speculation is never positive? I don't know. It does serve it's purpose in that it seeks to root itself into finding the truth. Am I wrong?

No we do not receive our pell all at once. Yes, BIE gave Redman money or "assistance" as Valveoil so elegantly put it. Haskell use to give out 85% on first disbursement and then 15% of it well into the semester (numbers according to my Pell grant amount). Last semester they changed it to where you get 15% 1st and then the rest 2nd. Here's the kicker. They said it was better because although they switched it, you would get all your pell in 6 weeks rather than 8-10 weeks into the semester as it was prior to the policy change. Well, I went in to turn in my paperwork for this semester and they said it would be 3-4 weeks for 1st disbursement. That would put us at 2 months into the semester (8 weeks). I guess the 6 weeks went out with last semester. I don't even know the time frame for 2nd disbursement. Judging from past experience it takes a few weeks after 1st disbursement to get the 2nd. So we're talking at least 2 1/2-3 months before we get all our just dues. I use that money to pay my rent months in advance so we don't have to worry about it. Guess what though, I'm worried about it.
