They are parents, friends, neighbors, mentors and heroes. Our 2012 Only in Lawrence nominees have won the recognition and respect of the community. They are truly the people that make our town special.
It seems unusual that in such a well researched portrait of Lawrence that not one business owner is given mention for providing jobs or goods or services or meals or entertainment or opportunities or leadership or benevolence except the owner of a "gentlemen's" club. What's up with that LJW? Are there no identifiable business owners among us who have earned sufficient "recognition and respect of the community" to be included in this group ?

This is a wonderful portrait, including the many photographs.
Thanks to all the staff for such good work!
Next year, though, why not do Only in Kansas - with inputs from all the different newspapers throughout the state? That would be truly incredible.

I love that the LJW does this piece! It would be great to recognize more people from the community and do this twice a year or more!
