Living by the book
Old German Baptist Youth
The annual church conference provides time for youth to socialize, pray and gather for fellowship.
Old German Baptist Young Folks
While different congregations of the Old German Baptist Brethren meet to discuss the future of the church, down the road the youth socialize, pray and gather for fellowship. Early Sunday morning the youth joined the rest of the church for a prayer service.
Old German Baptists make their way to a worship service Sunday, May 11, 2008 during the church's annual convention, held this year south of Lawrence.

It's no more a costume than the jeans and t-shirts most of “us” wear and definitely similar to the business suits seen on white collar workers.

No, no, I don't buy it. This is pretentious. What is the point? I hope its not “We are more holy than thou, look at us” … “we separate from the unholy, look at us” … though I think it is.

I agree with Bea. This is their cultural outfit, much like the Mennonites or the Quakers. While I admire their peaceful existence, I could never last there.

I have grown up in a German Baptist home, although I have not yet joined the church. As for the dress, I would say it is far from a “holier than thou” look. These people are truly trying to strive for a literal interpretation of the Bible. Modesty, simplicity, and nonconformity to the world are of utmost importance. If you are willing to make a true change in your life, then you certainly could last there.
