Schnette Hollins (News Clerk)
Even though I love to write stories, I'm not what you would call a reporter. I enjoy taking pictures, but I'm not really a photographer. I am a news clerk, and I work very closely with the community helping people get their news into the paper and online.
I joined the News Center part-time in October 2007. In late December of the same year, I joined the staff full-time. My responsibilities include writing society announcements, handling business briefs, obituaries and compiling the Go! Calendar. Out of all of my duties, I enjoy the society section the best. Each week there are always new faces and the announcements are never the same.
I am a Kansas native. I have lived in Kansas most of my life, except for three years. I was born in Topeka and raised in Kansas City. I graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School and earned a bachelor's degree in English, with an emphasis in creative writing, from Kansas University.
One of the most unique things about me, are the special events that occurred in my life on holidays. I married my husband, Ivan, on New Year's Eve. My daughter, Cierra, was born on Valentine's Day. My son, Ivan, was born on Cinco de Mayo. My son, Austin, determined to be difficult, was born in early November. I used to tell myself he was born a week after Halloween, but it wasn't quite the same.
Outside of work, my family dictates my life. Usually there are practices, games or weekend tournaments to attend. When I have a rare moment to myself, I like to read, watch movies or play games. My favorites are Rhythm Heaven, Tetris, Mad Gab, Connect 4, Taboo and Guesstures.
