- In just a few short months, former Kansas University bowler Rhino Page has gone from hoping to be a part of the Professional Bowlers Association tour to nearly taking his first title in December at Spartanburg, S.C. Page, 24, came within 10 pins of defeating PBA veteran Parker Bohn III at the Spartanburg Classic, the tour’s eighth event of the season.

- For a moment, Haskell Indian Nations University’s Ben Carrywater forgot where he was. The Fightin’ Indians junior forward had the ball with less than 15 seconds to go in regulation against Johnson & Wales University on Friday with Haskell trailing by three. With the shot clock winding down and his mind wandering, Carrywater caught a break.

- The holidays are officially over, but Free State High’s girl’s basketball team needed a little more time to make its way back to the court. The Firebirds were out of sync for the entire first quarter of Friday’s game against Olathe North, but shook off the rust in the second to cruise to a 43-29 victory at Free State High.

- Matthias Reiber was ready. The Lawrence High sophomore was set for a two-and-a-half front somersault dive, when the announcement came for him to step down so the previous diver could dive again. The break in concentration didn’t matter.

- The road has been a tricky place for the Kansas University women’s basketball team this season. Tonight, at 5 p.m. against Xavier in Cincinnati, KU will get a chance to add to the chapter.

- After the first eight minutes of the second half, Kansas University’s Taylor McIntosh had seen enough. In that span, Boston University’s leading scorer and Kansas City, Mo., native, Jesyka Burks-Wiley, ripped off 14 points.

- Today’s Kansas University women’s basketball game against the Boston Terriers at Allen Fieldhouse features a pair of teams with different ideas about holiday time off. The last time the Jayhawks (9-2) took the court was Dec. 21, a loss at California, leaving a nine-day layoff between games.
