- Usually home field is an advantage for teams. For the 14-U Phenix-Rusk team, getting to play at home ended up being a loss in the opening round of the American Fastpich Assn. National “B” Touranment. After jumping to an early 2-0 lead, the Phenix suffered a 3-2 loss to the Blazer Blitz.
- Hummers hit road bump in pool play, rebound when it counts

- The Hummers had an easy route through pool play of the American Fastpitch Assn. National “B” Tournament, opening the tournament with a forfeit and a lopsided victory. But it was a different story in the Hummers’ third and final game in tourney pool play. The team was shut out, 6-0, by the Sun Devils at Clinton Lake Sports Complex.

- Though the final Jhawk Baseball game for the Cubs and the Yankees at Holcom on July 11 was decided before it began, both teams walked away with smiles on their faces and trophies in their hands.

- The Purple Power’s ability to decisively dominate the Jhawk Softball league was put to test in its second-to-last league game against White Tigers on July 13 at Youth Sports Inc. Although the Purple Power won, 7-5, the White Tigers threatened to deliver the team its first loss.

- After going 1-1 in pool play of the American Fastpitch Assn. “B” National Tournament, Phenix-Fyler took on the Harvard (Ill.) Sting in the first round of bracket play.

- Last year, rain caused the American Fastpitch Assn. National B Tournament to be an abbreviated version of what it should have been. A series of showers and thunderstorms put a damper on the tournament, forcing officials to cut the weeklong event short because of the unplayable, saturated fields.
