- When the Focus Film Festival began in 2006, a total of four high schools entered 11 films into the competition. Since then, the festival has grown tremendously with young directors from 14 schools in northeastern Kansas entering nearly 80 films into this year’s edition.

- Driver injured in U.S. 40 one-vehicle accident

- There was a single-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 40 Saturday night, five miles east of the Douglas/Shawnee County line. The driver, Josiah Benton, struck a tree while traveling eastbound about 10:24 p.m. after he crossed the center line and overcompensated.
