Current events put everyday worries into perspective
October 12, 2008
And to think I used to spend time worrying about the pack rat that lives in my garage. Mad man triggers steamy celebrity fantasies
September 21, 2008
Don’t tell my husband, but I’m mad about another man. I didn’t mean for it to happen. It’s not like I went looking for it or anything. It was just one of those things. September 14, 2008
Michael Kors obviously didn’t get the memo. Neither did Calvin Klein, Vera Wang or Marc Jacobs. I e-mailed every one of those high falutin’ New York designers with the same hot tip. “2009: The Year of the Bib,” I wrote. “Get on board, people, before opportunity passes you by.” Yet, scouring runway after runway during Fashion Week, I didn’t see a single supermodel sporting a bib on her bony torso.
Weather sends party plans awry
September 7, 2008
There are few inalienable truths in life, and here’s one of them: If you want to get your house in tip-top condition, throw a party. This week, the party in question was a wedding shower — a casual, co-ed affair for two of my son’s closest friends. The house in question was mine, and its condition had been rock-bottom.

Facebook triggers fresh social anxieties
August 31, 2008
I’m depressed and distraught because I don’t have enough friends. Oh, I’m doing fine in the flesh-and-blood buddy department. I have a gaggle of girlfriends from high school with whom I occasionally cavort. My coffee chums are cherished confidantes, and my tailgate group is a blast. Throw wonderful workmates, neighbors and sundry acquaintances into the mix and my cup should runneth over, shouldn’t it?
