Caroline Trowbridge (Assignment Director)

I’m the go-to person if you have a story idea or a question about our coverage. I’m always interested in what you’re interested in. So get in touch and tell me what’s on your mind.

My official title is community editor. That means I work with reporters as they develop stories that we provide to you in print and online. Our reporters are a versatile and talented group.

Although I’m not a Lawrence native, I’m married to one. And I’ve lived here off and on since I was a kid. My mom earned her master’s degree in English at KU, so we spent a lot of time in Lawrence. In my family, my parents never said, “If you go to college.” Instead, they said, “When you go to KU.”

I’ve covered a lot of beats – city, crime and courts, business. And I’ve been an editor for a long time. I also have worked at the Wichita Eagle and at the Kansas City Business Journal.

I won’t say I love Lawrence. That’s a given. I do have high expectations of Lawrence, as I think all of us who work and live here should.

When I’m not obsessing about news, I like to hang out with my daughter and husband, and our friends. My husband and I are motorcyle riders and birders. We love to travel and expose ourselves to lives different from ours.

We also are die-hard KU basketball fans. We also enjoy KU football. I remember crying when KU had 12 men on the field during the 1969 Orange Bowl. I was young then. Very young. But I understood football.

Please get in touch. Oh, and follow me on Twitter.
