- It’s 5 p.m. on a Wednesday, nearly closing time for Rod Ernst. He sits in his hardware shop near the putty knives, arms folded. Not too long ago, tool shops dominated downtown, he says. “Used to be one on every corner,” he says, rocking in his chair. “They’re all gone.”

- Chicken breast with rice, salad, a roll and a brownie. Not bad for the first meal at an interim homeless shelter inside the church housing the Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen. But ask Don Huggins, and he’ll say that’s just the beginning of good news coming out of the LINK site, which is housing displaced residents of The Salvation Army’s overnight shelter.

- Police said they issued a citation, but made no arrests, in a disturbance-with-weapons case outside of Cross Town Tavern, 1910 Haskell Ave. Susan Hadl, a sergeant with the Lawrence Police Department, said that officers were dispatched to the scene at 1:50 a.m. Callers told emergency dispatchers that somebody was waving a gun around outside of bar.
- Man flees would-be robbers who accosted him with a gun

- A 23-year-old Lawrence man was unharmed after fleeing two robbers who demanded money at 2:15 a.m. Sunday, police said. Lawrence Police Sgt. Susan Hadl said the man was approached by two suspects, one of whom was armed with a handgun, in the 1300 block of West Seventh near Louise’s West.
- Two men sought in armed robbery near 10th and Mississippi

- Lawrence police and KU Public Safety officers officers are looking for two suspects in an armed robbery that occurred in the 1000 block of Mississippi Street early Sunday morning. The suspects reportedly approached the victim in the alley behind Stadium View apartments, 1040 Mississippi St. One of the suspects reportedly presented a semi-automatic handgun, which he waved around and shot in the air.
- Police investigating sex crime that occurred Thursday morning

- Lawrence police officers are investigating a sex crime that occurred Thursday morning in the 1300 block of Vermont Street. Officers were called to Lawrence Memorial Hospital Friday night at 10:44 p.m. There, they found a 22-year-old KU student who said she was sexually assaulted Thursday morning at an acquaintance’s home on Vermond Street.
- Four juveniles taken into custody after fleeing police in stolen van

- Lawrence police took four juveniles into custody after they led police on a high-speed pursuit from Lawrence to an area southeast of the Kansas Speedway. The juveniles, aged 17, 14, 13 and 10 years old, were taken into custody about 10:15 p.m. Friday. Lawrence police Sgt. Mark Warren said the juveniles stole the van from The Shelter, a group home at 1615 Lindenwood Lane.

- After a series of derogatory remarks, a fistfight and a foot chase, officers arrested three people on battery charges in the 1100 block of Tennessee. Lawrence Police Sgt. Susan Hadl said four women and one man were driving in the alley between Tennessee and Ohio streets about 1:40 a.m.
- Police searching for man who robbed gas station at gunpoint

- The Lawrence Police Department is looking for a man wielding a semi-automatic handgun who robbed a gas station at 9 p.m. Sunday. Sgt. Mark Warren said the man walked into Presto, 602 W. Ninth St., threatened the clerk with the handgun and stole an undetermined amount of money.
- Alcohol may have contributed to injury accident, police say

- A 28-year-old man suffered cuts to his face after a single-vehicle accident in the 500 block of Lawrence Avenue Wednesday morning, police said. Lawrence Police Sgt. Susan Hadl said the man, a Lawrence resident, was driving his 2000 Toyota southbound at 2:05 a.m. Wednesday when he struck the curb and lost control of the vehicle.
