By Brady McCombs Journal-World Writer A 26-year-old Lawrence woman was raped at knifepoint late Thursday night on Campanile Hill on the Kansas University campus, KU police Sgt. Troy Mailen said. The incident occurred between 10 p.m. and 10:05 p.m. The victim was in the area from about 9:30 p.m. to 10:05 p.m.

By Brady McCombs Journal-World Writer Word of a massive recall of Firestone tires quickly reached the streets of Lawrence. Jill Bredahl’s mother called her Wednesday morning, worried about the tires on her daughter’s Ford Explorer. Bredahl, a Lawrence resident, has had her 1992 Ford Explorer for two years. She has not had any tire problems. But for her worried mother and her own safety, she said she would change the tires.
Accident on U.S. 59 injures three

By Brady McCombs Journal-World Writer Five people involved in a two-vehicle accident Sunday evening south of Lawrence on U.S. Highway 59 were lucky to avoid serious injury, a Kansas Highway Patrol spokeswoman said. The accident occurred at 6:35 p.m. Sunday at mile marker 149.5 on U.S. Highway 59 and County Road 458.
Supporters hope organic farming takes off like a weed

And he can draw from the years he spent on his family’s farm in Salina to sympathize with the difficulty of keeping livestock healthy without chemical shots. Nonetheless, Burr thinks it is time for farming to return to its chemical-free roots. The 57-year-old Lawrence lawyer and former chief of the Kansas Consumer Protection Division has practiced organic farming for 10 years.
