Ashley Meenen (Morning Meteorologist)
Ashley Meenen is the newest addition to the 49 Storm Team, serving as the weekend meteorologist.
Previously working for Matt Miller as an intern, this isn’t Ashley’s first time working with Kansas weather. In 2006, Ashley graduated from the Florida Institute of Technology with a BS in Meteorology, interning with WFTV in Orlando and the US Navy in Pensacola. Most recently working as the weekend meteorologist for WMDT in Salisbury, MD, Ashley wanted to get back to a severe weather market.
Growing up as a Navy brat and now being an Army wife, Ashley considers herself fortunate to have experienced most of the climates in the United States and finds the weather of Kansas an excellent opportunity to take full advantage of her education. Luckily her husband, Scott, got the opportunity to return to Ft Riley, bringing her back to the Midwest.
The most satisfaction for Ashley working at KTKA comes from being in a position where she can help the community by providing an accurate forecast and ensuring that the community is prepared for any severe or hazardous weather. Ashley also enjoys becoming a part of the community and looks forward to visiting schools in the area.
Ashley’s love of studying and forecasting the weather started in elementary school when a local meteorologist visited her class. This fascination grew and led her to study weather in Florida where she experienced quite a few hurricanes.
When Ashley is not at work, she enjoys taking her puppy, Maddie, to the dog park and discovering all there is to do in Kansas. Ashley feels very fortunate for the opportunity to become an integral part of the community
