A solid outing from the Kansas football defense this past Saturday in Manhattan didn’t propel the Jayhawks to a victory.

The efforts of KU redshirt senior linebacker Joe Dineen Jr. in the loss at Kansas State, though, put him in position to be named the Big 12’s Co-Defensive Player of the Week.

Playing out the final weeks of his college career with his hometown program, Dineen made nine total tackles against the Wildcats, including 2.5 tackles for loss and a sack.

K-State went the entire first half without scoring any points as KU limited the home team to 16 rushing yards and 59 total yards before intermission, and Dineen consistently made plays for the Jayhawks’ defense throughout the rivalry game.

Dineen shared the honor this week with Texas defensive back Davante Davis (interception, forced fumble, fumble recover, two TFLs at Texas Tech).

A former prep standout at Free State High, Dineen won the Big 12 weekly honor for the second time this season and third in his career. The senior linebacker also is a nominee for the Week 11 Lott IMPACT Trophy Player of the Week.  

KU (3-7 overall, 1-6 Big 12) plays at No. 6 Oklahoma (9-1, 6-1) on Saturday at 6:30 p.m., on FOX.
