FSHS freshman-to-be Downing-Rivers wins U.S. boys Jr. NBA World Championships with Drive5 Power Elite

Drive5 Power Elite won the U.S. boys final at the Jr. NBA World Championships on Saturday at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando.[/caption]Free State freshman-to-be Mozae Downing-Rivers helped the Lenexa-based Drive5 Power Elite team to a United States boys title at the Jr. NBA World Championships on Saturday at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando.

Downing-Rivers scored three points, grabbed four rebounds and dished out three assists in Drive5 Power Elite’s 68-53 win over Atlanta-based TSF Mack in the U.S. boys title game. Lansing native Mark Mitchell Jr. poured in a team-high 25 points.

The future Free State freshman also scored three points in Drive5 Power Elite’s 54-51 win against Dallas-based Team FOE in the semifinals on Saturday. Drive5 Power Elite erased a nine-point fourth quarter deficit to advance to the U.S. championship game.

The two wins on Saturday secured a spot in today’s world championship final for Drive5 Power Elite. Downing-Rivers and his teammates will go up against Africa & Middle East at 3:45 p.m. on FOX.

Drive5 Power Elite is comprised of Downing-Rivers, Mitchell, Adrian Dimond (Shawnee), Cooper Jackson (Overland Park), Damar’e Smith (Shawnee), Jordan Brown (Lansing), Aiden Shaw (Kansas City, Mo.), Taj Manning (Grandview, Mo.), Quinton Conley (Kansas City, Mo.), Gradey Dick (Wichita), head coach Allen Skeens and assistant coach Loren Manning.
