Mother nature spoiled another night of area high school athletics Wednesday evening.

One night after the City Showdown was postponed, both boys basketball teams were unable to be in action yet again. Free State’s road tilt at Mill Valley was ultimately postponed, while Lawrence High’s home game against Wyandotte was moved to another date, as well. No makeup date has been announced for either game.

Both teams are ranked in the top-10 in the latest poll by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association. The Lions (9-1) are No. 2 in Class 6A, while the Firebirds (8-2) are No. 9 in Class 6A. Both squads will have home games on Tuesday, as FSHS takes on Olathe East and LHS faces Shawnee Mission East.

In addition, Wednesday’s wrestling tilt between the Lions and the Firebirds at FSHS was postponed. Both teams will be back in action this week. Free State travels to Junction City at 9 a.m. Saturday, and Lawrence begins a Chanute tournament at 8 a.m. Saturday.
