FSHS boys fall to Shawnee Mission East in semifinals of McPherson Invitational

Free State’s boys basketball team gave up 16 points in the fourth quarter in an eventual 50-46 loss to Shawnee Mission East Friday at McPherson High School
The Firebirds, who have had plenty of experience at closing out games this season, were unable continue their recent success in the final frame. The Lancers outscored them by a 16-11 margin over the final eight minutes to secure a 4-point win during the semifinals of the McPherson Invitational.
Senior Noah Butler, who missed the opening round with an ankle injury, returned and led the team in scoring with 15 points. Junior DK Middleton added 8 points, while freshman Mozae Downing registered 6 points.
Free State will face Shawnee Heights in the third-place game, which is slated to take place at 5 p.m. Saturday.
