KU softball nets first win of 2019 season

Kansas softball netted its first win of the season, spitting its two games on day one of the Diamond 9 Citrus Blossom Invitational. The Jayhawks (1-5) notched a 4-2 win over UMASS to begin the event. KU then dropped a 2-1 decision to Iowa in the nightcap.

The victory marked many firsts for the 2019 squad. It was head coach Jennifer McFalls first victory, while also registering as pitcher Kirsten Pruett’s first career victory. Miranda Rodriguez registered her first hit of the season as well.

“It really comes down to the amount of runners we are leaving on base, and we had plenty of opportunities to capitalize on those runners early in the game,” McFalls said in a team release. “It would have taken a lot of pressure off our pitchers and our defense.”

Kansas plays Providence and Bethune-Cookman Saturday afternoon for the second day of the Diamond 9 Citrus Blossom Invitational.
