Area roundup: Tonganoxie tops Eudora for 1st win

Tonganoxie notched its first win of the season, claiming a 34-6 victory at Eudora Friday.

Eudora (0-3) struck first in the battle between area teams with a touchdown in the first quarter on a 1-yard run by senior running back Carter Neis. The Chieftains (1-2) responded with 34 unanswered points, including a 14-point outburst in the second quarter to remove any doubt.

Tonganoxie plays host to Bonner Springs next week. Eudora travels to Baldwin at 7 p.m. Friday.

Sabetha 35, Perry-Lecompton 33

Perry-Lecompton was on the losing end of a thrilling finish, suffering its first loss of the year.

Defending state champion Sabetha handed Perry-Lecompton a 35-33 loss in a battle of ranked teams in Class 3A, according to Kpreps. No. 5 Perry-Lecompton scored a late touchdown, but failed to convert on the two-point attempt in a narrow defeat against No. 2 Sabetha. Kaws quarterback Dalton Kellum ran for 236 yards on 31 carries, scoring four rushing touchdowns.

Perry-Lecompton (2-1) will play host to Wellsville at 7 p.m. Friday.

Louisburg 27, Baldwin 7

For the second consecutive week, Baldwin was unable to get back in the win column.

Louisburg led the whole night after an early score en route to a 27-7 home victory over Baldwin. The Bulldogs didn’t score until the fourth quarter in the loss. Louisburg jumped out to a 14-0 advantage in the first quarter, scoring 27 unanswered points before Baldwin’s late touchdown.

Baldwin (1-2) will travel to Eudora at 7 p.m. Friday.
