KU golf tied for 6th after day one of Trinity Forest Invitational

The University of Kansas women’s golf team began play for the final time this fall, at day one of the Trinity Forest Invitational at the Trinity Forest Golf Club on Monday.

The Jayhawks are tied for sixth with a 599 (+23), while Illinois lead the 12-team field with a 573 (-3) after two rounds. According to Golfstat, seven of the 12 teams are ranked in the top 58 in the nation.

“Overall, it’s a tremendous opportunity for us to see how we stack up against other top teams and to push ourselves outside of our comfort zones on a challenging course,” head coach Erin O’Neil said in a team release.

The steady play of seniors Ariadna Fonseca Diaz and Chomchana Phuchanbanchob anchored the team through the first day of the tournament. Phuchanbanchob is tied for fifth on the individual leaderboard with a 146 (+2), while Fonseca is tied for 12th with a 147 (+7).

Kansas will return to action Tuesday for the final round.
