Jayhawks down Tigers in overtime

Kansas guard Kylee Kopatich (33) celebrates with a teammate after sinking one of her five first-half 3-point baskets in the Jayhawks' 66-48 win over Campbell on Sunday, Nov. 12, 2017, at Allen Fieldhouse.

It took five extra minutes of action, but the University of Kansas women’s basketball team came away with a 90-83 victory over Fort Hays State Sunday afternoon at Allen Fieldhouse.

The Jayhawks closed out the final 3:53 of the overtime period on a 9-1 run to finish off an exhibition win over the Tigers.

“I don’t know if we could have asked for anything more out of an exhibition game,” head coach Brandon Schneider said in a team release. “Give Fort Hays State a lot of credit, they were exactly what we expected out of such an experienced group. A lot of veterans over there, who I thought played extremely hard. They were so competitive in all the hustle and toughness areas of the game and I think that made us a lot better today.”

Christalah Lyons, Brianna Osorio, Austin Richardson and Kylee Kopatich combined for KU’s final 11 points in the win. The four finished the game with 53 points, 23 rebounds and eight assists for the Jayhawks.

Kansas plays host to Washburn at 2 p.m. Sunday.
