An entertaining weekend of big time basketball and elite talent on display wrapped up on Sunday at Sports Pavilion Lawrence, where Session 1 of the Hardwood Classic came to a close.
KUsports.com recruiting insider Matt Scott was out there all weekend, taking in the action and tracking the play of the handful of KU targets on hand.
Members of the KU coaching staff were in attendance to watch Class of 2019 forward Malik Hall and MoKan Elite teammate N’Faly Dante, one of the top players in the 2020 class, both Saturday and Sunday.
KU also checked in on Class of 2020 shooting guard Andre Jackson, who wowed the crowd with an explosive performance en route to winning the Friday night slam dunk contest, as well as Class of 2021 forward Jaylon McDaniel, of Blue Springs South.
Dante and Hall, still stinging from falling short last weekend at the high-profile Peach Jam, brought home the hardware this time, knocking off Jackson’s City Rocks (Albany, N.Y.) squad, 71-54, in Sunday’s title game.
Here are a few highlights from Dante and Hall and a trio of other local prospects worth keeping an eye on, as well as a few images from Scott of the players the KU coaches tracked at the Hardwood Classic this weekend.
Sports Pavilion Lawrence will be hopping again next weekend — July 26-29 — when Session 2 of the Hardwood Classic comes to town.
