Lawrence HIgh senior Chisom Ajekwu (45) blocks the shot of Topeka High's NiJaree Canady (40) in the first quarter Friday night at LHS.

The Lions earned a 56-35 win on the road against Hayden, which is the No. 8 ranked team in Class 4A, on Tuesday.

Lawrence opened up the game up 23-12 at the half and held onto the comfortable lead for the remainder of the game. It marked the team’s first win of the year after Lawrence dropped the season opener against Topeka High.

“It was great to see how our upperclassmen responded to the loss Friday,” LHS head coach Jeff Dickson said. “They came out focused and determined and it was much more like what have grown to expect from them.”

Chisom Ajekwu led the way for the Lions with 14 points. Hannah Stewart finished with 11 points to join her in double figures, while Ozi Ajekwu and Ella Stewart each added 10 points in the win.

Lawrence will play host to St. James at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Lawrence 12 11 22 11 – 56
