Sound Off: Former football coaches

How are former Kansas University football coaches Mark Mangino’s and Turner Gill’s teams doing at their new schools?

Mangino is in his first year as assistant head coach/tight ends coach on the staff of Youngstown State head coach Eric Wolford. The Penguins play in the Missouri Valley Conference, a Football Championship Series (Div. 1-AA) league. They are 6-1 with their only loss coming to Football Bowl Subdivision school Michigan State. YSU is tied for first in the Missouri Valley Conference with two-time defending national champion North Dakota State. Both schools are 3-0. The schools meet Nov. 16. Gill inherited a Liberty University football program that had won at least a share of four consecutive Big South titles. The Big South also is in the FCS (Div. 1-AA). His Flames finished second in the conference in 2012 and tied for first in 2013. This year’s team is 3-3 and begins its five-game conference schedule Saturday. Gill’s overall record at Liberty is 16-12.
