Sound Off: Medicare patients

Is there someplace that can be contacted for a list of primary care physicians who are accepting new Medicare patients? On the official Medicare website, patients can search for providers by specialty (including primary care physicians) within a certain radius of their zip code or city and state. The Web address for Medicare Physician Compare is http://1.usa.gov/ehd0bx.

You can call 1-800-MEDICARE which is 1-800-633-4227 or you can go to the website as superswagg56 mentioned, www.medicare.gov. Some information may not be up-to-date but that will be up to the provider's to correct that.

The Cotton-O'Neil medical group in Topeka takes medicare patients. The group is owned by Stormont Vail, and now has close to 200 doctors. They are always adding new physicians that can be primary care doctors, as well as specialists. All but two of the physicians I see are in that group. My primary care doctor is outstanding, as are her nurses. In fact all of the doctors in the group provide excellent health care.

After 10 years on Medicare, I have to say my 3 Cotton-O'Neil specialists are all on the same medical data base = status & medications available between them with a keystroke. They've done an XL job of faxing my primary care physician, as well.

Well, seems my doctor is not on the list. Guess I'll be looking for a new doctor in a few years. :0(
