Sound Off: Fireworks at Lone Star Lake

Can people shoot fireworks off at Lone Star Lake this year?

Douglas County administrator Craig Weinaug said fireworks will be permitted this year. According to Douglas County resolution 6-202, people can shoot off fireworks in unincorporated areas of the county from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., July 1-2, and from 7 a.m. to midnight, July 3-4. County officials said people may shoot fireworks from land at Lone Star Lake, but not from the water, from the public docks, or from campgrounds. The county permits the same types of fireworks that are allowable under state law, but the county does not allow bottle rockets.
