Sound Off: Turn lane on Iowa Street
I see the signs on Iowa Street that construction will begin in 2013. I know a turning lane will be put in, but was curious if a right-turn lane will be put in at 15th and Iowa for people wanting to turn right onto Iowa coming out of the university.
According to Megan Gilliland, the city’s communications manager, dedicated right turn lanes will be installed on all four approaches of 15th and Iowa streets intersection during the Iowa reconstruction project. However, a right-turn lane on University Drive will not be installed. A center turn lane will be installed north of 15th Street on Iowa Street to improve the safety and efficiency of left turns to and from side streets.

Ah, but will they put in a left turn arrow at Iowa and Harvard? I think there should be one now.

There already is one.

There is a left turn lane in both directions from Iowa to Harvard. There is no protected arrow (light) for left turns in any direction at that intersection.

On Iowa Street? That's asking for an accident to happen.
