Sound Off: L.I.N.K. location
With the opening of the homeless shelter on the southeast side of town, will Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen be moved there as well?
LINK will remain at its location in the basement of First Christian Church, 221 W. 10th St. “We are centrally located here, and it is easier access,” said Greg Moore, LINK director.

I've never thought of LINK as being only for the homeless. The few times I've gone it was a place to enjoy a free lunch with friends when I'm downtown. I've even volunteered as a server a couple of times. It beats fast food.

LINK was here long before the shelter... It's a very busy community service.

The first time I heard of LINK was in 1985.
Vioux Builders was above Buffalo Bob's. Greyhound had just moved from its location next to the Opera house to where McD's stands on 6th street today. Four Winds sat at 19th and Mass (serious Haskell meat market) Yellow subs were worth their weight in gold. Stokely's was still taking applications. Scotch textile plant sat at 10th and New Hampshire, the little gas station across from it (now a ceramics shop) was the last full-service pumps in town. Kasold at 23rd was a gravel road with stop signs. Red's Down under was at 8th and N.H., right next to Quantrill's. Gammon's served with an automated drink mixer. The Harbour and Louis's were both 3.2 only. Boog was at 1614. Great place to visit. The Replay was a record store, 12" vinyl the media of choice.
The Russians were coming nearly everyday and Micheal Jackson's hair caught fire. "Going postal" hadn't been invented yet.

Duds 'n Suds was on 9th. If you went early enough in the morning, drying was free--if you could find a free dryer. It was a good deal for a broke college student.

Geekin: It was Vieux Associates above BuffBob's. Architects & design/build residential contractor.... They did Dud's & Sud's @ 9th & Miss... & remodeled old gas station @ NE corner of same intersection... & first rehab of Eldridge Hotel
