Sound Off: Tree branches
We saw your note in the paper about taking bundles of tree branches to the curb so we put some out, but they didn’t take them with our leaf bags. What do we do now?
According to Megan Gilliland, the city’s communications manager, call the city’s Solid Waste Division at 832-3032 to report any missed collection or to inquire about service.

They can't be tied. The string gums up the chipper.

Seems contrary.... "...Bundles must be tied with string or twine (please no wire, duct tape, etc.)..." from: http://lawrenceks.org/wrr/lawntreeprunings

I've had the same problem. I've read the instructions on the website and tried making shorter bundles, smaller diameter bundles, putting them in a bag, and tying them with different twine and string, but I still haven't figured out the trick. They just don't take them and you can't get anyone to tell you what you are doing wrong so you can change it. It isn't consistent sometimes you can do it the same way two times in a row and one week they will be picked up and the next they are left.

I thought yard waste was not being picked up until sometime in March. Are you throwing it with the regular trash pick up?

I stuff mine vertically into a trashcan. If you put them in there straight, you'd be amazed how much you can fit into one can (remember trash CANS? Those things we used to have to own before the city saved us from that suffering) They've taken them every time.

I stuff mine vertically in the paper bags and have never had a problem in pick up either. I try to make sure they don't stick up much from the edge of the bag.

"Separate collection of yard waste in 2013 begins on Monday, March 4th, and will occur every Monday through December 16th".
If you are putting it out now it will be counted as regular trash and will count toward extra trash, a green tag, and the requirement toward larger cans, or more of them.

KRichards opines above:
"If you are putting it out now it will be counted as regular trash and will count toward extra trash, a green tag, and the requirement toward larger cans, or more of them"
Incorrect: Simply phone solid waste, advise them you're putting yard clippings and waste in whatever, and it will NOT be counted as a "ding" against your account.

Interesting and rather idiotic. What change do the crews make after you call to inform them you are setting out yard clippings? Shouldn't they know you are setting out yard waste when they pull up to your house and see it?

Speaking of branches! Why are they doing the hack job on West Bob Billings (West of Kasold)? There aren't any power lines?
