Sound Off: Comment numbers

Why are there discrepancies in the listings of the number of comments on stories on Some stories show many fewer comments than the number listed.

This is because of an inconsistency in our online publishing system. Stories that appear on more than one site — for example on LJWorld and — show the total number of comments on the story across all sites, but only the comments entered on that particular site are actually visible. In addition, the number may not match because some comments are occasionally removed by site moderators, but the overall number of comments made is still listed.

PHP code doesn't write itself; The forum is just feature incomplete; I'm sure some guy in India is working on it very much;

They'll get it going right sooner than I'll care if the post count is correct;

I still miss the old days when they left some evidence of a removed comment up so the incredulous responses had some context to them. Now they get tacked on somewhere else and it doesn't make any sense, or worse gives the completely wrong impression.

A says: I had the sweetest puppy when I was a little kid.

1 reply

C: says: God that's the most hateful judgmental thing I've ever seen! Where do you get off?! Your parents needed to raise you better!!

missing comment: B says: Dammit no wants to hear about your puppy and we hate you. No one cares about you! No one cares about your puppy, we'd rather eat it in front of you!

This happens all of the time.

WHAT? This is a real question? Why do pe ople care about anything as trivial as this? Just more dumbing down of the population.
