Sound Off: What is the financial agreement between the city of Lawrence and the buskers who come here to perform?

Megan Gilliland, the city’s communications manager, provided this answer: The city provided $2,000 in funding to support the Busker Fest in 2012. The funding came from the transient guest tax, which is collected by hotels from guests who stay in Lawrence. The city’s sponsorship of the event goes toward marketing and advertising.

Didn't answer the question. What money was spent where?

What part of "the city provided $2,000 in funding to support the Busker Fest in 2012" and "the city’s sponsorship of the event goes toward marketing and advertising" did you not understand?

$2000 really isn't much for an event that draws that many people downtown. It's not giving money away, it's an investment in making Lawrence and its downtown an attractive place for visitors. If no one showed up then that would be one thing, but it sure looked like a success to me.
